FROM THE PASTOR

How much influence do you have in God's plan to redeem the world? Chances are we don't see ourselves as having extremely prominent roles. Our roles may not make headlines. They may not be the topic of conversation at the coffee shop.

Even so, what we do as co-workers with God in fulfilling His plans is very important. Do not think otherwise about what you do, or can do, in God's service.

Sunday's sermon is going to focus on one of Jesus' disciples who was not known for the "big" things he did, but what he did was important none the less. His name is Andrew. Look in the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and the first chapter of acts to see what you can discover about Andrew. He is the Bible character we will be looking at Sunday.

Much comfort came into our home as we read the many, many meaningful verses in the sympathy cards we received after mother's death. It warmed the heart just to know we were not alone in our sorrow.

As I look at these beautiful cards,
Oh, what do I see?
Not the pen nor the sweet verse
Do I see;
I see friendships close and dear
I feel the presence of Jesus ever so near.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness, brothers and sisters in Christ.

Love, Anita and George

CHURCH GROWTH

During February, we treat our favorite hunny and/or ourselves with gifts of love and special treats. Often this includes a dinner to your favorite restaurant. How about letting Chef Peggy and her "staff" treat you to a great dinner? We will be serving Beef Brisket, Green Beans, Cheese Potatoes, Green Salad, rolls and Cherry Cheesecake.

This dinner will be here at the church on Saturday, February 9th at 6:00. If you need a baby sitter, some of our high school youth will be providing that service for us. Please let us know if you will need this service.

The cost of this dinner is $12.00 apiece. You may buy the tickets at church on the next two Sundays. If you are writing a check, please make it out to Peggy Smith or Lenora Heath. We will be using this money to buy the food for the dinner.

Please join us for an evening of great food, fellowship, and celebration of this wonderful holiday. We will be ending our evening with music from "Sisters of Song" from the Mulvane United Methodist Church. We know this will be an evening to remember.

This is a reminder that UFO will meet Friday, January 25th at 7:00 p.m. Join us for an evening of fun and

YOUTH NEWS

Our middle school and high school youth are busy preparing for this year's Super Bowl Sunday soup dinner and auction --just two weeks from today! We hope you will all join us for a delicious soup dinner and a lot of fun. This year, each of our youth is putting together a gift basket to be put up at the auction in addition to their 2 hours of service.
If you are interested in helping out with this eveny -- making soup, setting up tables or if you have items or services that you would like to donate, please see Machaelle.
~~~~~
We recently received 2 six week curriculum series to preview: Parenting: The Early Years and Parenting Your Teen. Upon previewing them we felt they were worthy of purchasing if there was any interest from our congregation. There is a table out in the entryway with additional information about these classes. If you have an interest, please stop by the table and fill out the sheet indicating days and times that would work for you. One possibility would be Wednesday night. We do need to know of your interest as soon as possible as we either need to decide to purchase the series or return it.
~~~~~
Just a reminder: We are still collecting items for the YWCA Women's Crisis Center. Hotel samples of shampoo, soap etc. are needed as well as other personal hygiene items such as toothpaste and tooth brushes, combs, lip balm, perfume, nail polish. Donations can be left in the basket in the entryway.
