FROM THE PASTOR:

"Communities In Schools" - what's that? It's an organized program helping kids prepare for life. Two ladies who serve as Site Coordinators for the Communities In Schools (CIS) program shared information with the ministers at one of our Haysville Ministers Association meetings. There are a number of opportunities for caring adults to make an important difference in the lives of children and youth. Among the ways persons can help are these: Be a tutor by working one-on-one with a student or student groups in the academic area of your choice. Be a mentor to a child or a group of children. Facilitate a group for children on such topics as conflict resolution, social skills, careers or healthy choices. Make a tax-deductible donation to help CIS connect children and their families with community resources.

Can you make time to help children and youth during their formative years? If you would like to be part of CIS look over the information on a table in the entry area at church. If you want to be in touch with a person who can give you more information or answer questions about helping local schools, call the church office (524-5884).

BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSAY CELEBRATION

You are invited!!!! Please join us for song, celebration, and fellowship!

Every first Sunday of the month we celebrate birthdays and anniversaries taking place in that month. Please join us in the sanctuary at 10:15 as we recognize those who are celebrating these special occasions. Honorees are asked to come to the front of the sanctuary and make an "offering" of 1 penny for each year they are celebrating and then get to experience the pleasure of the church family singing in honor of their occasion.

This is also a great time for Sunday school classes to share news of what they have been doing, or by sharing skits, songs, etc....If you have something you would like to share, just let the celebration leader know as we gather.

February's leader will be Mike Hauser. (Thanks Mike for filling in for me.)

YOUTH

Super Souper Bowl Sunday is here! Get ready for a full day of fun and fellowship this Sunday, February 3rd!

The silent auction for the gift baskets put together by our youth starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. You can get a number to participate in the bidding anytime throughout the day.

The youth service auction will take place immediately following worship. Dirty car? Streaks on windows? Need a babysitter? A strong back? Whatever your need, we can help. Check your honey do list and then come bid on your favorite worker.

Finally, to cap the day off, plan to come at 4 p.m. and watch the game with us and enjoy a hearty bowl of homemade chicken tortilla, potato or vegetable soup. There will be a video arcade for kids and dominoes/cards for those wishing to play.

The good will offering for the soup dinner as well as all the monies raised through the silent and service auction will go into the youth mission trip fund. See you Sunday!

CORRECTIONS

The correct street name for Jim and Stacey Howard is Mehgan Lane.

Typo for Davin and Amanda Reust; should be Africa.

Most of you have already received a 2008 Church Directory, if you haven't; they are on the table in the sanctuary. Let Dee know if there are any corrections/additions or if extra copies are needed.
