NOTE FROM
PASTOR MILT
Ash Wednesday begins our
Lenten journey. Our journey takes us through the triumph and trial of our
Lord, leading us to the cross. Contemplating this journey, the words of
hymns and songs that I have sung over the years come to mind, which I trust
will be sung and heard during this Lenten season. The hymn “The Way of
the Cross Leads Home” is in our hymnbook and the other song is a dramatic
number by Geoffrey O’Hara, “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked.” There
are some other great songs in our hymnbook that lead us to the cross, which
I am sure we will hear and sing.
Lent for many people is a time to give up something, such as
chocolates or sweets, or some habit that needs a life changing experience.
While this can become a great discipline, we can hardly wait for Easter so
we can pick our life back up again.
I would propose to you that Lent is not so much about what we
give up, but what we might gain. It should be a time of great spiritual
enrichment. Each Sunday during Lent I will be speaking on some aspect of
Jesus’ life, with the ultimate prayer that we will be drawn closer to
Jesus Christ.
Resurrection and Easter mean more, as the word in another great
hymn says, “I’ll go with Him through the Garden.” We might know what
the end, the outcome of Easter is, but it is important to know how we got
there.
Lent can be a life changing experience. Invite someone, or
just bring someone with you to worship. It could be an exciting
adventure.
Blessings be with you all.

In
Sympathy
The Thursday morning AHA!
Group and the church family extends our sympathy to the family of Velma
Stites, mother of Ann Everett. Velma passed away Thursday, February 19,
2009. Funeral services were held Monday February 23, 2009, in Herington,
Kansas. Velma was always here at the church every Thursday morning for
AHA! to play Mexican Train dominoes until she became homebound. We miss
her wit, reciting poetry, friendship and her love for the game.
