NOTE FROM THE INTERIM
PASTOR
Coming to a new place to work or serve
the church, whether it is a permanent position or on temporary duty, such
as an interim, there are many things one has to learn, such as where the
hospitals and medical facilities are, or even the local seasonal customs of
the church, like for Easter.
A week or so ago, I found myself as a stranger in a foreign land. I
found myself with a medical problem, not sure how I was to handle it. Like
the story of the Good Samaritan, I felt like the man who was going down
from Jerusalem to Jericho. I may not have been stripped, beaten and robbed
and left by the road half-dead, but I definitely felt like I was lying by
the road (or in my case standing by the road), wondering what was going to
happen to me. I was finally able to make a phone call to Dale Atkeson, who
wasted little time in setting in motion the necessary help that I would
need. I did not look at my watch, but I imagine it was less than 5 minutes
before help was at my door, along with Dale and Merrill Deck. Thanks to
them and Marsha Devan I was helped, assisted, and ministered to like the
words in scripture tell us: “I was a stranger and you took me in.”
These people, along with those on our prayer chain, may never know how much
you helped, in that period of uncertainty.
Some of the best help may not always be in the doing but just by
your presence. That might be just enough to help someone along their
journey, whether it be of a spiritual nature, or related to the current
economic pressures of the day.
I heard the story of a church who has coffee available in their
plaza between services. Because of the size of the church, you may not
know who you might be having coffee with. That person may have just lost
their job or has filed bankruptcy, or for that matter had just closed a
million dollar deal.
By our coming together for worship each Lord’s Day, we have helped
somebody along the way, but we may never know whom. Your presence in
worship not only can make a difference in your life, but with someone else
you may not even know.
Blessings be with you all. Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

THANK YOU
The family of Velma Stites wishes to
thank the Christian Church family for their many expressions of sympathy.
We especially appreciate Carolyn Schottler for sitting with my mother the
past few years, Carolyn Roberts for her weekly visits and good cookies! and
George and Anita Lespagnard for their weekly visits, prayers and communion
service. The AHA ladies were always gracious to my mother and she held
them in a special place in her heart. Ann Everett
Thank you so much for your generous contribution to Haysville
Community Outreach. It is people like you who make it possible for us to
bring a happy holiday season to those less fortunate. Penny Mundell, HCO
We want to thank all of you for your love, prayers, kindness, and
support during the time we were members of First Christian Church of
Haysville. Plinio and Joyce Andrade
The Velma Stites Memorial fund to AHA! is very much appreciated by
all the members.
Thank you for the prayers, cards and phone calls during this time of
our health concerns. We still have a long way to go before we are out of
the woods. Our family is blessed, richly blessed, by such a supportive,
loving family. Bill and Beaulah Eastman

CHURCH GROWTH
The cause for February is Victory in the
Valley. It is a non-profit cancer support organization. Its purpose is
providing “A Place of Hope” along the cancer journey—that’s what
Victory in the Valley is all about! Their mission states that they will
seek to walk beside cancer patients and their families . . . with the goal
of providing emotional and spiritual support, physical assistance and HOPE
for their journey through cancer. We can help by bringing individually
wrapped snack items (sugar and sugar free) for the Hospitality Centre
across from St. Francis and/or monetary offerings. We will also be making
cotton turbans for women who have lost their hair during chemotherapy.
Contact Lenora Heath for a pattern if you sew and think you would be able
to help with this project. You may continue to bring snack items through
the rest of the month and we will take the snacks to the Centre. Thanks
for your help.
Service Men and Women in Afghanistan
We wanted to let you know that we were able to put together three
boxes of snacks, food and personal items for the servicemen in Afghanistan
serving with Captain Aaron Devan. They were mailed two weeks ago and
hopefully will be arriving there soon. Thank you so much for all of the
support you always give.
Secret Prayer Sister
Ladies! Do you realize that it’s been six months since we picked
our current Secret Prayer Sister? The purpose of this group is to lift
your sister up in prayer every day. It would also be nice to let her know
every once in a while that you are thinking of her and keeping her in
prayer. You could do this by leaving a note, card or small gift on the
table in the entry. This would “make her day.” There are a couple of
women who have only heard from their Secret Prayer Sister one time. If you
have misplaced the information sheet that you received last September, let
the office know and we’ll see that you receive a new one. Thank you for
your prayers in this matter.
