NOTE FROM THE PASTOR MILT

The Hawaiian greeting “Aloha” can be both a Greeting as well as a Farewell. Likewise Easter can be both a beginning as well as an ending. Consider that Easter concludes the tragic events of our Lord in triumphal resurrection. With that we can consider that the end of the story.

Easter can also be the expression of New Life. It makes no difference whether Easter comes early or late, one thing you can be sure, Easter brings a change in the weather. We see trees and flowers that have been dormant over the long cold winter, beginning to bud, bringing us Hope for new and brighter days ahead.

Easter is also a time of new beginnings. As each day gives us opportunity to start over, Easter can be a time when we renew our Christian walk. We celebrate resurrection and the New Life that Christ gives to us, because He lives.

Let us join together and celebrate Easter – what God has given to us through Jesus Christ. Blessings be with you all.

Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

THANK YOU

While I was lying on my hospital bed in the pre-op room two and a half weeks ago I looked up at the clock and it was near 9:00 a.m. the anointed hour of my now delayed surgery . . . a realization came over me that my dear church family was probably praying for my well-being at that time. What a comfort it gave me! Thank you all for your prayers, cards and calls. Alma the meal was delicious that you so lovingly brought to us. I will be wearing my “new look” for the next three months . . . another lesson I have to learn in becoming patient! Dale has been a wonderful nurse and he willingly takes me out for “Driving Miss Daisy”. I love you all. Donna Atkeson.

NEW MEMBER

Samantha Jimenez came forward Sunday, April 5, 2009 to place her membership with First Christian Church. She will be baptized Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. Samantha’s family Rafael, Jennifer and Stefanie are already members at FCC.

We welcome Samantha to our church family.

DID YOU KNOW . . .?

Kathy Clubb had surgery on her hand Friday, April 4th. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Andrew Marsh was named to the HMS Academic Excellence Honor Roll with a GPA of 4.0.

Danielle Fox was named to the HMS Principal’s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.5-3.99.

Alicia Reed was in the congregation on Palm Sunday. We have had her in our prayers for ten months. She was at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where she underwent a bone marrow transplant for Fanconi Anemia. Alicia surprised her grandmother and her aunt when she sang “Jesus Loves Me” to the congregation.

Linda Bergeson got a job at the Derby Diagnostic office which is part of Derby Family Medical.

Shea Reust found her wedding ring that was lost a year ago.

Jana Armer was named “Girls Coach of the Year” in the Oklahoma NOAA Conference. Jana coaches basketball at Muldrow, Oklahoma High School. She is the niece of Merrill and Dee Deck.

We had 50 people here last Wednesday for Family JAM. Our worship/devotional time was so nice—and even though Machaelle served up very ugly hot dogs . . . we all enjoyed the meal and fellowship! Our next JAM is April 24th. Plan to come!

CHURCH GROWTH

Our Cookies for a Cause this month is the BLANKET+ program through the Church World Service. We’ll be giving you a little information each week and a video on the 19th.

Easter Fun Day
Don’t forget this Saturday the 11th is our special day for the children in the church. It is from 10:00 a.m. to noon. If you haven’t signed up yet, please call the office with the child’s name and age. The children will need to bring a basket to use during the egg hunt. We still need some adults to help at the craft tables and help hide the eggs. If you can help, call Lenora at 524-4053.

Family Fun Night
There will be no Family Fun Night on Saturday, April 11, 2009.

EAGLE SCOUT

Alex Marsh will be selling raffle tickets each Sunday for a Coleman grill. Stop by his display and buy raffle tickets for a chance to win the grill. You do not need to be present when the winner is announced following worship on Sunday, April 26. See Alex before or after church or see Dee in the office for tickets. This is a very prestigious award so let’s help Alex achieve his goal and help fund this project to provide our church with a beautiful new gazebo.

2 Ways to help with this project:

1. BUY RAFFLE TICKETS: $1.00 each or 10 for $9.00.
2. CHECK OR CASH DONATIONS: Make checks payable to First Christian Church and write “Alex’s Eagle Project” in the memo. Put cash in an envelope marked “Alex’s Eagle Project”.

YOUTH NEWS

All high school and middle school youth who wish to participate in the 30 HOUR FAMINE scheduled for the weekend of April 24-25 need to turn in their student activity forms, t-shirt order and medical release forms by WEDNESDAY, April 8th.

The ½ Nighter event that was cancelled last week has been rescheduled for Friday, April 17th, from 6 p.m.-midnight. All high school and middle school youth are invited to attend. If you are planning to bring a friend, you need to talk to Machaelle, prior to the event.

A-OK CARD MINISTRY

Each month cards are mailed to our church family members to commemorate special events such as birthdays and anniversaries along with cards of thanks, sympathy and get well wishes. All of the necessary supplies are provided . . . you simply choose cards from the box that you would like to send, add a personal message to the recipient, then address and mail the envelope. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, there is a sign up sheet on the table in the back for you to choose the month that works best for you. If you have any questions Lenora or Machaelle will be happy to answer them.

RECYCLING AT FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

We are stewards of God’s glorious creation, earth. God has given us the responsibility to protect, nourish and care for this world. Any change we can make towards furthering that effort is worth our time and effort. Please remember to recycle your bulletin and clean papers in the bins provided in the entryway. Remember, too, that we have several containers for recycling aluminum cans out by the playground where you can bring in your cans. Look for more opportunities to go green in the next few weeks.

REMINDER

OUR CHURCH WILL PAY ½ OF YOUR CAMP FEE! Be sure to register before April 15 to receive the $20.00 discount. After the 15th you will be responsible for the extra $20.00. Camp schedules are available in the office.

PRAYER WARRIORS--E-mail from Stacey Howard

I am in need of your support again as I enter into the last month of school. I am working on completing my thesis...with the May 1st deadline fast approaching. Pray my research analysis goes well, that I can complete the last two chapters of my thesis, and look forward to graduation on May 9th! I also ask for prayer as I work on sending out resumes to the area colleges/universities. I am entering a very unstable job market, so please pray God provides a teaching position for me.
Thank you all for your friendship and support especially over the past two years of my graduate coursework. It has been a challenging journey and I could not have done it w/o prayer. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13
