FROM THE PASTOR:

"People who need people are the luckiest people in the world." I think that is an accurate rendering of a phrase in a song that had some popularity several decades ago. That phrase came to mind as I read the text I am using for Sunday's sermon, Acts 2: 42-47. There were, and are, a lot of people who need people. We probably do not usually think of people who have needs, whatever those needs are, as being lucky. But think about it a bit. If there are people who have every thing they want but do not have a good relationship with people they are indeed, impoverished.

Having people we care about and who care about us is a taste of life at its best. It is apparent that the early church cared about each other. They studied together, they shared with each other in fellowship, they broke bread together, they prayed together, they were amazed at God's mighty deeds together, they helped one another, they ate together, they shared life together, and they praised God together.

These traits continue to be important if the church is to be healthy and effective in fulfilling God's purposes. People need people.

George

Dear Church Members,
Thanks so much for your beautiful cards - so sweet and thoughtful. I miss you all so much. I just feel lost not going to church. I am really no better but have faith and hope. I will be starting water exercises at Derby. That will be close to home and not so hard for Ed. There are only three places in the Wichita area for water exercise. I can't wait to get started. Thanks for the many cards and delicious meals. We thank you.
I love all my friends at Haysville First Christian Church. God bless you all. Pat Carr

CHURCH GROWTH

Our Cookies for a Cause this month is the Tools and Blankets program of Church World Services. Thank you for watching the video last Sunday. If you weren't here, it provided us with some insights into the ways CWS and its partners are actively involved in work around the world. From blankets to fishing boats, from rebuilding children's confidence to reconstructing homes and livelihoods, the broad spectrum of CWS response provides a rainbow of caring, a sign of hope.

And, thanks to support provided through the TOOLS AND BLANKETS offering, CWS will continue to be there for those in need - from the hurricane ravaged gulf states of our nation, to the farther shores of some 80 nations. Next week you will be given an opportunity to give an offering to this important mission.

Family Fun Night

Please join us this coming Saturday night for an evening of family fun. Bring sandwiches or a salad and your favorite game to play. We start at 6:00 and end around 8:30 or 9:00. There will be a movie for the children to see. See you then.

PROPERTY

The property committee would like to thank all the men that participated in the work day Saturday, April 5th. They fertilized the lawn, capped off the sprinklers for paving, trimmed the shrubs and replaced a board on the merry-go-round.

We still need someone to sign up to mow the front lawn. Please check the bulletin board in the entryway and sign up if you can help with the mowing. Also we need people to "Adopt" Property. See the schedule in the entryway.

Thanks to Ted Clubb, Joe McCormick, Jake Lewis, Ron Lewis, Plinio Andrade, Butch Morrell and Jim Holmes who have already signed up to mow and trim.

STEWARDSHIP

Not By Bread Alone

How fortunate we are at First Christian to have many fellowship opportunities: Cookies for a Cause, Tables of Eight, Family Fun Night, and Friends Night Out. At each of these and other fellowship opportunities, we share delicious food, take time to get to know one another, and have fun. The "Not By Bread Alone" program will supplement these activities.

As Christians, we are to fellowship with one another and to grow in our knowledge of our Lord. When Jesus was tempted by Satan to turn stones into bread, he responded, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'" (Matthew 4:4 NIV). Do we enjoy ingesting the word of God as much as we enjoy a good meal? Perhaps not.

This year, the stewardship committee would like to challenge each member and friend of the church to "eat" scripture every day through daily Bible reading. Are you up to a challenge? How many of you think you can read through the Bible in one year? That's the challenge. If you don't feel you are quite up to that, you might consider reading through the New Testament in one year. Don't have good vision or ample time to read? Perhaps you can listen to the Bible on tape.

In taking this challenge together, we can encourage one another and help each other understand some of the more difficult passages. Together, we can read God's word, strengthen our relationships with each other and with God, and become more like Him.

Please carefully consider the challenge of reading through the Bible in one year. On Sunday, May 4th, all will have an opportunity to publicly commit to spending more time in God's word.

Be sure to listen to the announcements, watch the skits, and read the newsletter for more information.

FROM THE E-MAIL FILE

Hello Everybody,

As you know I had a cochlear implant. I went to the Dr. and they activated the speech processor. Man I can hear the hearing world now and I still learn the word with the hearing aid. I will go to speech therapy for sounds and words with the hearing aid. Now I know how the hearing aid and cochlear implant are different. It is a very wonderful position for people who can’t hear it. I am very happy with it. God Bless you, Tamra Lukert
