NOTE FROM THE PASTOR MILT

NOTE FROM PASTOR MILT
I am sitting in my office in the afterglow of an exciting Easter Sunday as I write this article. I was sharing our Easter experience on the telephone with a friend of mine in another state late Easter evening. He asked, “What was the best part of the service?” Not wanting to get into dissecting the service, I said, “It was exciting from beginning to end.” I must admit, the strains from the closing hymn of triumph, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” are still ringing in my ears.

The question might be, “Can we duplicate this experience again?” My answer would be, “We may not be able to duplicate this exact experience, but we certainly can build upon it.” Maybe the word we need to use here is “momentum.”

Back when I met with the Search Committee in the process of becoming your interim minister, I suggested we begin our ministry the Sunday after George retired. I knew there would be some momentum in the church, and I wanted to be able to build on that momentum. I am glad we did.

The excitement of Easter Sunday and all of the events that surrounded this special day give us building blocks to lay upon the strong foundation that has been prepared for us. Like the words found in Ephesians 2:20: “Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone.” This past Easter is, as the words from that great hymn by Fanny Crosby say, “O what a foretaste of glory divine.” In our situation it might be a “foretaste of what we can be.”

Easter was a great day, make no mistake about it. We have some exciting days ahead, because of Easter – Because He Lives!

Blessings be with you all. Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

THANK YOU

Skip Noordhoek had another stint put in an artery in her heart Tuesday. She is doing very well and is home now. Skip wants to thank everyone for the cards, phone calls and prayers in her behalf.

I’d like to thank everyone for showing their support last week for my “Eagle Project.” We are to the point where we can order the gazebo and begin building . . . thanks to a generous contribution from Lowe’s. Please visit my stand in the lobby if you have any questions or would like to help. Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers. Alex Marsh

Thank you to Milt for coming before Ted’s surgery. A big thank you to for all the prayers, cards and food during our surgeries! What a blessing to have such a caring church family. Thanks again! Ted and Kathy

CHURCH GROWTH

Easter Fun Day
Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, just right for an egg hunt. We had 75 to 80 adults and children who joined us for a great morning of crafting, egg hunting and eating lunch. We think it was a success! Seeing and hearing the joy of happy children made the day!

I want to give everyone who helped in any way a great big THANK YOU! Machaelle, my committee, Peggy, Alma, Teresa, and Kathy, all the youth and adults who helped at each craft center, hid the eggs, and those helping with clean up and putting the sanctuary back together for Sunday service. You all made this a very successful event.

Women’s Tea
We would like to invite all the ladies and young women in the church to a tea. It will be Saturday, May 2nd at 1:00 p.m. Our guest speaker this year is Barbara Bath. Our theme is “Sowing Seeds of Faith.” If you are able to attend on the 2nd, please sign the sheet of paper on the table at the back of the sanctuary. Please include the number of family and/or guests that will be coming with you. It will be a fun afternoon!

FROM THE E-MAIL FILE

Hi,
Just thought I would give you an update on Joshua. He graduated from Navy basic training Friday,
April 3. He has lost more weight, he is almost skinny. He is doing really good and said to tell everyone Hi! He went to Charleston, SC Sunday for his nuclear schooling. He will be there for the next year and then will either stay there for the next six months of schooling or head to New York. Thanks for all the prayers.

FREE LUNCH FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

Campus High School has invited all senior citizens age 60+, from area churches, for lunch at the Commons (cafeteria) on Monday, April 20th at 12 o’clock noon.

YOUTH NEWS

The HALF-NIGHTER event is this Friday, April 17th from 6:00 p.m.-Midnight. All high school and middle school youth and their friends are welcome. Youth planning to attend need to let Machaelle know by WEDNESDAY, April 15th. More information will be sent home Wednesday night after the regular meeting of CHAOS/TOE.

Nine of our high school and middle school youth will be participating in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine this April 24th-25th. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to eradicate world hunger and to raise awareness of the effects of hunger and starvation on the 840 million people on the planet that don't get enough to eat. You can help us is our efforts to follow the words of Isaiah 58:10 which tell us to, "Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your/our light will shine out from the darkness." by keeping us in prayer as we prepare for the famine and by making a donation to World Vision via one of our participating youth. A single dollar will feed a hungry child for an entire day! That's less than a venti latte at Star Bucks! For more information see Machaelle.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Can you believe it's already that time of year again? It's time to plan this year's week of VBS, scheduled for JUNE 15-19 from 6-8:30 p.m. We'll need LOTS of adult volunteers to make this a successful venture. We need leaders and helpers of all sorts! Please plan to come to the VBS PPP (that's Planning Party with PIZZA) this Sunday, April 19th immediately following worship in the Cornerstone room to find out more and to see where you can get plugged in. Childcare will be available. Please RSVP to Machaelle by Thursday, April 16th.
