FROM THE PASTOR
Anita and I had a wonderful vacation May 12-29!
Our furthest destination was St. James City, Florida, where Anita’s
brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mary Fox live. They were gracious
hosts during the week we were with them and we enjoyed having some quality
time together.
In addition, we saw some interesting places and things along the
way—ancient cities, historic land marks, artifacts, of various kinds,
Museums of Natural History, The National Military Park and Vicksburg
Battlefield Museum, as well as the beauty of the earth, part of God’s
magnificent creation.
We are grateful for the folks who filled in for us in our
absence. We also appreciate your prayers for a safe journey and a
relaxing vacation together.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
(Not By Bread Alone)
I don’t know about you but I am enjoying the reading plan and I find
it helpful and encouraging to know that others are reading too. It helps
me feel accountable so that when it’s Tuesday and I am struggling with
focus on the names of towns in Joshua, I know others are getting through
it and so can I.
We have had an incredible total of 70 people make reading
commitments.
New Testament Plan:23 Whole Bible Plan:35 Independent
Reading:12
That would calculate to over 900 chapters per week to be read by
our congregation. Here is how we compare, commitments vs. chapters turned
in after the first three weeks:
Actual Read: 1,810 Commitments: 2,745
Remember! When you sign the red Friendship Pad to list the number
of chapters read since the last time you reported them.
Thank you, Johnna Hall (Stewardship Committee)

THANK YOU
Dear Carolyn,
Thank you so much for offering to prepare meals for Jim and me.
Honestly, we are doing quite well. My recovery is coming along quite
nicely. It is a nice gesture and one that is greatly appreciated; more
than you know. I’d like to believe that there are others who are less
capable and would perhaps need meals before we would. The offer alone was
quite sufficient. AND, if I didn’t think we were getting along, I would
definitely take you up on the offer. God has blessed me in my recovery.
Therapy is going well and I am advancing quite nicely—through the many
prayers and good wishes that I’ve received. If our progress should
change, I will let you or Dee know. Again, thank you so much for
offering. That means a lot to me!
Laura Spears-Vargas
Note: Carolyn Roberts coordinates the committee that prepares meals
when anyone in our church family has a need.
To My Secret Sister:
I want to thank you very much for the great birthday present. It was
such a nice gift and I will always enjoy it. Thank you for always having
my family in your prayers.

CHURCH GROWTH
Every year we celebrate our fathers with a cookout
at the church on Father’s Day at 5:00 p.m. Bring a side dish, lawn chairs
and a good appetite. We provide everything else. This is a great
opportunity to visit with others in the congregation and their families.
We always eat on the front lawn in the shade of the church. If it rains
we will eat inside. Don’t forget! Sunday, June 15th at 5:00 p.m. at the
church for POPS FOR POP
Cookies for a Cause
Our Cookies for a Cause for June is the YMCA Women’s Crisis
Center/Safehouse. Domestic violence is a community issue. Violence
against one member of the community is violence against the whole
community. The YMCA accepts a leadership role in addressing a number of
issues that affect the lives of women, children and families by offering
comprehensive domestic violence services.
SHELTER PROGRAM: The YMCA shelters approximately 450 women and
children each year. To help victims begin a violence-free life, they are
provided with safe/confidential housing, basic needs, advocacy, crisis and
supportive counseling, domestic violence education, parenting education,
support groups and agency referrals.
CRISIS HOTLINE: The YMCA receives more that 6,000 crisis calls each
year. Their 24-hour crisis line assists individuals with support services
and agency referrals. Next week we will tell you about the children’s
programs and Pets in Crisis programs that the YMCA provides at the Women’s
Crisis Center.
