| FROM THE
PASTOR |
One of the themes for Vacation Bible School last week was "Jesus
Gives Us the Power to Help Others." Helping others is so important, whether
it's helping parents, siblings, grandparents, neighbors or someone we don't
even know. This week some of our middle school youth and their leaders are
implementing this theme by doing some important tasks for folks in our
community.
One of the chief characteristics of Jesus was that of serving.
If one read through the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, noticing
especially the ways and the people and the times Jesus served, I'm
confident we would have an impressive number. Yet, Jesus' many acts of
serving others were not to impress them or us. Jesus said to his disciples
during their conversation at their last supper together, "I am among you as
one who serves" (Luke 22:27).
Serving needs to be one of the chief characteristics of the
church and of individual Christians. Sometimes we have opportunities to
serve in larger ways, sometimes in small ways. Both are important.
I'm proud of our middle school kids and their leaders for
planning two days especially devoted to serving others. Those who are
served are blessed and so are those who serve when they do it for the same
reason Jesus did-caring about others.
George

| GERRY LEWIS
MEMORIAL PICTURE |
Ron Lewis presented a beautiful picture of Christ at Heart's
Door by Warner Sallman to the Cornerstone Sunday School class on June 8,
2008, from the Lewis family in memory of Gerry Lewis. Gerry was a faithful
member of the Cornerstone Sunday School class for many years.
The class would like to thank the Lewis family for the picture and
Brian Vincent for the beautiful job he did framing the print.
The Lewis family chose this picture because they remember it hanging
in the Dodge Baptist Church Jake attended while growing up in Oklahoma and
where he taught the family the meaning of "no door knob."

| THANK
YOU |
To My Friends at First Christian Church,
Thank you so much for the prayers for a safe and successful surgery;
prayers for a quick recovery, cards received from many who have gone
through this same procedure and calls of well-wishes. It's nice to know one
is thought of when life throws you a curve! God answered many prayers and
I'm recuperating nicely.
Thanks again, Laura and Jim Vargas
Dear Pastor,
Thank you for inviting me to participate in worship at First
Christian Church of Haysville and for permitting me to report on what God
has done through the Gideon ministry.
The extremely generous gift from the congregation totaling
$1,210.00 will make it possible to place 890 Scriptures, which will be read
by over 35.000 people. Many of these people will confess Jesus Christ as
their Savior and Lord. I enjoyed the service and the Sunday School class at
First Christian. Nancy Sturm, Dale Atkeson and Dee (who manages the church
office) helped me with numerous details. Everyone in the congregation was
genuinely friendly.
In Christ, Joseph Botinelly
Dear Church Family,
I just want to say how blessed I am to be a part of such a wonderful
church family. I am so grateful for the powerful prayers that were lifted
up on behalf of my father, Dale Foust. I was privileged to receive
assurance that those prayers for Dad's spiritual well being were answered
in the last hours of his life. God is so faithful to hear and answer those
prayers that are in alignment with his will. Thank you to all of you who
prayed for him and our family. I can't even begin to express the gratitude
I feel for the kind words, phone calls and the beautiful cards that brought
such comfort. How beautiful is the love of God when it is so perfectly
demonstrated through those who love others with his compassion. Thank you
all.
In His Grip, Marsha Devan and the family of Dale Foust
