| NOTE FROM
THE INTERIM PASTOR |
It is Sunday morning. I have a few moments of quiet where I can
collect my thoughts and write a few lines for the newsletter. I
mentioned in the last newsletter there is always great preaching. This
Assembly has been no exception. Saturday had two great preaching
experiences that I believe I will long remember.
Dr. Fred Craddock, one of the most outstanding preachers of our
time, was the principal speaker for the Disciples Care Network Dinner. It
was by accident that I was able to get in to this dinner. I was glad I
did. Dr. Craddock spoke about “Jesus’ work.” When he concluded his
message, Dr. Craddock received a well deserved ovation from the 500 or so
people that were in attendance for this dinner.
On Saturday evening back at the convention hall, I heard a stirring
message from Dr. Frank Thomas, Senior Minister at Mississippi Boulevard
Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee, one of our largest churches in the
Disciples of Christ. Dr. Thomas chose his text from Acts 2:1-2,
emphasizing the word “suddenly.” In coming weeks I will share more of
these two messages with you in various ways.
One of the joys for me was not only seeing friends and colleagues
whom I have not seen in several years, but the opportunity to share some
experiences and participate together in the Saturday night worship
experience with a friend who has just become a licensed minister in
Nebraska, now serving the church I formally served as their interim
minister.
This has been a time of refreshment and renewal for me. It has been
good to be here in Indianapolis. It will also be good to be back home and
in the midst of ministry at Haysville.
The 2011 General Assembly will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, July
9-13, 2011.
Blessings be with you all. Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

| THANK
YOU |
Dear FCC,
Your continued support of the Union Rescue Mission is always an
encouragement to the staff just to know that you are still “with us”
and that you share our same enthusiasm and desire to really “change lives
of the homeless”.
Marsha K Stanyer, Executive Director
Ted is on the way to recovery! Thanks for the prayers. Ted and
Kathy Clubb
Thank you to Marsha Devan for filling in for Milt in the pulpit on
Sunday, August 2, 2009. Her very inspiring message was entitled
Crossroads—My Way or The Way?
Dear Haysville Christian Church,
I just wanted to thank you all for paying for half of my mission
trip, among other things. It was a truly memorable experience, and I am
beyond glad to have been able to take part in it. I appreciate all you've
done for me, and am so glad I am a member of this wonderful congregation.
Thank you again. Betsy.
Thank you to all of those who have been praying for my daughter
Anetta Kay Webster. She is still paralyzed and no reason can be found.
She mouths words and smiles but no other movement. Prayer is our hope now,
as always. Mary Ellen Shockey
Bill and Beaulah spent Saturday evening and night at a lodge near
Fall River with Tom and family. Tom’s daughter Kaley will be going to
Korea to teach conversational English and one son will be moving to New
Hampshire.

| DID YOU
KNOW? . . . |
The elementary Sunday school classes have made snack packs for
the fire station on West Street and casseroles and cookies for Ronald
McDonald House.
On August 7th Brandon Eastman is having nose surgery after a
baseball hit him in the nose during practice this spring.
The good news is he is going to stop whistling through his nose and
breathe normally. Yea!
April and Aaron Devan are back from their trip to Italy. Praise the
Lord for safe travel.
Pat Falley is still struggling with back pain. He had an MRI which
showed that he had a herniated disc which is pushing on the sciatic nerve.
He will see a surgeon’s PA this week. He was able to go out to dinner at
Mark and Natalie’s home, but paid royally in pain.

Family Fun Night
This coming Saturday the 8th at 6:00 p.m. will be Family Fun Night.
We have so much fun playing board games, enjoying each other’s company
and sharing our favorite foods. Bring a salad, some sandwiches or your
favorite dish to share with others. Following dinner we play board games,
cards or dominoes. Bring your child’s favorite game and one of us will
play with them. If the children don’t choose to join us for games they
may watch a DVD. Join us for a fun evening. We usually wrap up between
8:00 and 9:00 p.m.
Ronald McDonald House
Our Cookies for a Cause for August is Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Wichita. A survey conducted in 1982 found that many
out-of-town families of children hospitalized in Wichita hospitals had
nowhere to stay. Many slept in their cars or waiting room chairs. Some
chose not to treat their critically ill children because they couldn’t
find affordable lodging. The Dept. of Pediatrics of KU Med Center-Wichita
and Junior League of Wichita and other community supporters founded the
first Wichita Ronald McDonald House near Wesley Medical Center in 1983.
The house was called Sleepy Hollow.
With the opening of Midtown Ronald McDonald House in 1985 near Via
Christi Center St. Francis Campus, Wichita became the first city in the
world to have two Ronald McDonald Houses. Since its inception, these two
House Charities have served more than 21,000 families.
Being alone in the hospital can be a traumatic experience,
especially for children. These houses offer a loving home-away-from-home
to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children
while they’re being treated at area hospitals. Just like your house,
lots of things are needed to keep these houses running. This is one way we
can help with this worthwhile organization. Items that you contribute may
be placed in the basket in the entryway. Thanks for your help. There
will be a wish list on the table in the sanctuary.
