FROM OUR PASTOR

I was about to begin my article for the newsletter when the telephone rang at about 10:55 p.m. It was Brandon calling from the hospital in Kansas City, MO where he took Breanna about an hour earlier. SHE IS IN LABOR!

Life is filled with so many of God's wonders. The creation of new life has to be near the top of the exciting list of God's wonders. I’m going to stop writing for now in order to pray for Breanna, the baby, the doctors attending them and Brandon.

IT'S A GIRL! At 5:01 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, she "elected" (it’s Primary Election day) to make her appearance. Thank you, God, for the gift of new life. Bless and keep them near you. "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24).

CHURCH GROWTH

This month we are going to celebrate our Sunday School teachers and Bible study facilitators here at First Christian. We want to let them know how much we appreciate their dedication to their calling of teaching and ministering to us, their students, young and mature.

To this end we are putting together gift bags that we will present to them on Sunday, August 31st, during the service for Promotion Sunday. You can contribute to this gift through this month's Cookie For A Cause. Please see Lenora or drop your donation in the basket next Sunday when we celebrate with cookies and lemonade.

Next Sunday, August 10th, at 3:00 p.m., Church Growth is going to meet here in the Cornerstone classroom to put together gift jars to be sent to the Kansas Christian Home for their Fall Bazaar. We would appreciate any extra help that we can get. We have all the necessary supplies; we just need the extra hands to assemble the gift jars. Please plan to come and help us.

Family Fun Night is this Saturday, August 9th at 6:00 p.m. Bring sandwiches, a casserole, or something else to share and stay for lively games after the potluck. If you have a special game you would like to play, bring it along. We look forward to seeing you all there this Saturday.

MEN'S BREAKFAST

MENU: Scrambled Eggs, Potato Casserole, Biscuits and Gravy, Sausage, Bacon, Peaches, Coffee, and Orange Juice. Doesn't that sound like a good breakfast? There were 14 present, including our special guest, SCD Minister Renee Bridwell and her husband Steve, enjoying breakfast Saturday, August 2. It was good to have Bob Robbins join us for the first time. Thanks to the chefs for a wonderful breakfast and to those who helped with set-up and clean-up. Join us for our next breakfast Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 a.m. The signup sheet is on the table in the sanctuary.

CARD SHOWER

A card shower is requested for Robert Coffman who is an 18 year old young man in the hospital with leukemia. Robert doesn't have any family to visit him while he is in the hospital. Marlene Fether thought a card shower from our church or anyone who would like to send a card, would be helpful in lifting his spirits. Send your card to:

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital,
