FROM THE PASTOR

Family reunions can be great times!! Each year for the past . . . I'm not sure how many years . . . our family has had a reunion on the second full weekend in June. We visit, share news-some happy, some sad-we laugh, we eat, we play games . . . . Reunions are important.
Every other year, on the even years, the Kansas region has a "family reunion." That is when all of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) are invited to get together. This year's reunion (Regional Assembly) will be October 17-18 in Manhattan, KS. We will make more information available soon. But, if possible, keep the dates open-October 17-18, Friday and Saturday-for the "family reunion" in Manhattan.

YOUTH NEWS

The old adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," held true this last Saturday. Despite soggy conditions, our garage sale netted nearly $800!!! thanks to everyone who helped with this fundraiser … those of you who donated "treasure", helped sort. set up, sell, tear down and provided us with goodies like hot biscuits/ gravy, doughnuts, cookies, hotdogs/ hamburgers.. My hat is off to you! Thanks you so much!

Speaking of hats….my dunce cap must have been on Sunday morning when I announced the
KFC PICNIC & SCAVENGER HUNT at the ZOO. The correct date for this event is SUNDAY, AUGUST 31st. Come join us! We'll caravan from the church following worship, enjoy a picnic lunch and then set out on a quest to discover the name of the newest odd-toed ungulate or the primate that emulates the advice given in James 1:19. You can sign up on the sheet on the table in the sanctuary, or call Machaelle at the office.

Another fun event coming up is the Sunday School Pizza Party on Saturday August 23rd at 5:00 p.m. EVERYONE is welcome. We have two outstanding adult classes and unbeatable teachers for our pre-K-high school youth. Come see for yourself!

School gets underway this week which means that the start of our youth programs is right around the corner. Our first night back will be Wednesday September 3rd. WNL and TOE will be from
6-7:15 p.m., CHAOS from 7:30-9:00.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

For the last several years, our church has participated in Good Samaritan's Shoebox mission. This year we are mixing things up a bit. Instead of collecting items and packing boxes here at the church we are asking each family to pack a couple of boxes at their home and then bring them to the church on Thanksgiving Sunday to be sent to the packing center. If you would like a sturdy plastic box to use, please sign up on the sheet in the sanctuary by August 31st so that the boxes can be delivered in September giving you 3 months to shop and pack your boxes.

Contact Machaelle for more information.

LORD'S DINER

(This information was received from Jerry Earleywine. You may bring your shirts to church and Jerry will see they get to the person in charge)

The Lord's Diner will collect new and gently used T-shirts in children and adult sizes, including XXL. We will distribute these to our guests in August. We hope to make this a yearly collection and give away. Not that our guests are literally naked but they are in need of clean clothes. So many of them come in several nights in a row in the same shirt and you know this can’t be pleasant for them. Please NO torn or stained shirts! NO morally questionable logos etc.
Thank you,
Jan
