FROM THE
PASTOR
As I am writing this article I am waiting for a
"live body" on the other end of the telephone line. Meanwhile, I am
provided with music that, although it is OK, does not respond to my present
need. While waiting, I began thinking about our "line" to God. No, we
don't have a verbal exchange like another human being on the other end of
the line. But, if God is who we believe God is-all-knowing,
all-powerful-loving, ever present by the Holy Spirit-we have the right
connection. Our communicating with God does not fall on deaf ears. By
faith we know God hears, understands, cares and will respond in appropriate
and helpful ways. Take time to communicate with God. God wants to be a
part of your life.

PRAISE THE LORD! DID YOU
KNOW?
In an e-mail from Stacey Howard this is what she
wrote about her new job.
I am in my second (and last) year of graduate school at Southern
Illinois University Edwardsville working toward my MA in Speech
Communication. I was awarded a teaching assistantship this year, which
basically means: I teach two freshman level Public Speaking classes and my
tuition is waived-plus, I get a monthly stipend. I teach Mon-Wed-Fri and
then my own classes that I am enrolled in are on Tue/Thu, so I am keeping
very busy! Hopefully, once I graduate, I will be able to find a teaching
position at one of the surrounding community colleges or even here at SIUE
which I would really like because it makes it easy for Jim and me to
carpool! We'll just have to see what is available come next May! I am
really enjoying the experience this year though-and I have two great groups
of kids - 24 in one class and 25 in the other, and so far everything is
going great!
Stacey, Jim, Jaimee and Jordan were members of our church until their
move to IL. Stacey is the daughter of Stephen and Shirley Lieurance who are
members at FCC. It is good to know what our former members are doing.

TABLES OF EIGHT KICK
OFF!
Mark your calendar for October the 12th at
6:00p.m.at the church! We will kick off the fall season with a carry-in
dinner for all the past Table of Eight participants as we get ready to
regroup for the winter and spring. AND this is an invitation to any adults
from the church who would like to participate, to come and join in for fun,
food, and fellowship.
What is "Tables of Eight"? It is small groups of adults who get
together for dinner once a month to get better acquainted, share food and
fun. Groups meet monthly at one member's home, (everyone brings food) for
a 3 month period, and then rotate the dinner to another member's home for
the next three months, or, they can meet at the church. It is a great way
to spend time together outside of our normal church routine, and to get to
know each other better.
The sign up sheet for the Kick Off Dinner is available on the
table at the back of the sanctuary, or if you would like more info, please
feel free to call Marsha Devan at 993-0786 or Nancy Sturm at 729-7131.
Come Sunday night, October 12th, for the get together and we will
organize the groups that night!
Hope to see you there!

THE COUNT DOWN
Come
help celebrate, honor, glorify, commemorate, keep, solemnize, extol,
observe, command and praise our togetherness as a church. It was just 15
years after the Civil War that Elder Cain helped establish the Prairie Home
Church, or as we know it today, the First Christian Church.
You can enjoy some of its history on display in the foyer on September
28. A very meaningful worship service has been planned and then everyone
is asked to bring a basket (carry-in) dinner and we'll all enjoy lunch
together.
The Cross Generation Band will bring our special music Sunday,
September 28.
