NOTE FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR

Summer will be officially over September 22nd, as that marks the beginning of Fall. Soon we will see the changing colors of the leaves, and their eventual falling from the trees. It will signal another changing of the season.

Already some of the stores are displaying Christmas decorations, even before Halloween. We may feel that is pushing the season as we might want to wait for the first snow fall before we start thinking of Christmas. Mark my words; Christmas will be here before we know it.

Throughout the Advent and Christmas season, churches in general see an increase in attendance. Christmas programs and services have a way of encouraging people in church attendance, whether it is for a children’s Christmas program, a choir or special music program, or especially for a Christmas Eve Service. Celebrating the birth of Christ can have a positive affect on someone. It could be the beginning of a life changing experience.

Bring A Friend Sunday was a positive experience in our church. We can do great “things through Christ who strengthens us.” Thanks to everyone who made this a great day. We look ahead to other great days in the life of this church.

Blessings be with you all.

Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

CHURCH GROWTH

This coming Friday, September 25th is the UFO/Craft Night. We usually work on our own projects, share snacks and have lots of fun and fellowship. This Friday we will be working on baby quilts for the babies that will be born in the coming months in our church. We sure could use some help with this project. If you have a sewing machine and would like to join us Friday, let Peggy or Lenora know. If you would rather work on one at home, let us know too. Thanks a lot, Church Growth

"Many Members, One Table" is the theme for this year's Reconciliation Ministry offering, which will be received in congregations on September 27 and October 4. Funds from the offering support the Church's effort to become a Pre-Reconciling and Anti-Racist church advancing the Church's identity as "a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." It’s time to get serious about packing a shoebox for one of the hundreds of thousand needy children who will receive boxes this year through the Franklin Graham Samaritan’s Purse Ministry. We have just two short months to go before we need to send our church’s boxes to the processing center. Last year our church sent 70 boxes out. I think we can do better than that! Let’s aim for 100+ this year! Stop by the display in the entryway and pick up your box, label and other important information regarding this ministry.

COFFEE HOUR COOKIES

If you would be able to provide a batch or two of cookies or other baked goods for our after worship fellowship time, please sign up on the sheet on the table in the entryway.

FROM DISCIPLES HOME MISSION

Dear Colleague in ministry:

We have come to the fall session of another year and this letter comes to you enclosed with at least one of two items of recognition. Every year, the Office of Evangelism and the Yearbook office partners come together to recognize and uplift those Disciples congregations which reach the top ten percent of the congregations of their size in their evangelistic efforts from the previous year (keep in mind our yearbook statistics are actually a year behind as it relates to reporting).

Again please accept this small token of recognition for your efforts in evangelism and striving to be a 21st century congregation.

Rev. R. Wayne Calhoun, Sr., Minister of Evangelism, Office of Evangelism and Executive for Congregational Transformation, Disciples Home Mission
