FROM THE PASTOR
The “Road to Freedom”—I wrote about it in
last week’s newsletter and will do so again in this issue. “Road to
Freedom” is a ministry led by Tom Brevard with the help of his son,
Randy, and volunteers in the local community. The purpose of this ministry
is to encourage people, particularly young people, to choose not to let
alcohol or other drugs ruin their lives.
On November 10 and 11 (Monday and Tuesday) there will be
assemblies in both of our Middle Schools (Monday) and Haysville Alternative
School and Campus High School (Tuesday). On Tuesday afternoon and
evening, starting when school is out, all of the youth are invited to share
in games, food, fellowship, music, give away prizes and the closing event.
This ministry will require a lot of help. Seven of our people
have already indicated their desire to have a role in this event. More can
join in this effort to help kids to make good choices. Let me know if you
want to share in this ministry. There are a variety of ways to help.
Thanks,
George

YOUTH NEWS
Our first Family JAM session was a huge success!
Over 50 people turned out to enjoy a hearty sloppy joe dinner prepared and
served by the young men of CHAOS, followed by an entertaining game and skit
featuring the TOE youth based on the game show "Let's Make A Deal". (Be
sure to ask Mike Russell about his new walking stick!) If you missed out
on this event, that's sad for you! But never fear! We're planning to make
this a monthly event. Mark your calendars now to join us October 29th at
6:00 p.m. You'll be glad you came!
Calling all K-5 agents for Christ! It's time to show up in force on
Wednesday nights. Come learn about your special mission! Report for duty
at 6:00 p.m.! Bring your friends!
Raeven Blackbull, Stefanie Jimenez, Andrew Marsh, Bella Nicholson,
Max Shetler, and Mikayla Russell attended the CIY SuperStart event this
past weekend. It was an amazing, wild, and majorly fantastic time of
worship, learning and fellowship. Come to the Anniversary/Birthday
celebration this Sunday. We will be sharing highlights from our weekend.
Don't miss out!
It's time to start thinking about our annual TRUNK-or-TREAT
event….a wonderful opportunity for our youth to show off their costumes
in a safe environment and for all of us still young at heart to join in the
fun. Start planning your decorations and costumes now and get your vehicle
(who says it has to be a car?) registered. Registration forms are available
from now until the 22nd of October. GREAT prizes will be awarded for the
best-themed trunks. Call Machaelle with your questions.

RECONCILIATION OFFERING
October 5, 2008
The Reconciliation offering is divided into two parts with one half
going back to the region from which it was received and one half going to
the whole church reconciliation mission administered by the Reconciliation
Mission Commission made up of volunteers from around our church today.
Each region divides the funds it receives in its own fashion to meet the
needs as they are understood in that local area. Kansas supports 7
projects. (OGMP)
RECONCILIATION MINISTRY OFFERING WILL BE RECEIVED ON WORLD
COMMUNION SUNDAY
On Sunday, October 5th, Disciples will get their first opportunity
to celebrate World Communion Sunday in conjunction with Reconciliation
Ministry’s Special Offering Sunday. World Communion Sunday (WCS), with
its emphasis on Christian Unity and Reconciliation Ministry whose emphasis
is racial justice, have been brought together in this way because “the
aims of ecumenism and the aims of racial justice belong together in the
ministry of Jesus Christ,” according to a recent General Assembly.
Resolution 0719, adopted at the 2007 Ft. Worth General Assembly,
recommended that WCS and the Reconciliation Offering be celebrated together
to encourage congregations to express the Church’s commitment to
Christian Unity while also seeking God’s justice in addressing the sin of
racism. To support this church wide effort, please remember to give
generously to the Reconciliation Special Offering, which will be received
in congregations this Sunday, Sept. 28th and on Sunday, Oct. 5. April
Johnson, Minister of Reconciliation, has written a reflection that reminds
Disciples of their identity and call to stand in unity and solidarity for
the full inclusion of every member of the human family.
