NOTE FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR

Monday morning is an important morning for me. It gives me time to reflect on our Sunday worship experience. I like to know what our attendance was and who our visitors were. After reflecting on Sunday past, I look at my schedule for the week and for that matter the rest of the month, and begin preparations for this coming Sunday.

October is a full month. Each Sunday has special significance. Sunday, October 18th the Youth will lead our worship service. I know this will be an exciting Sunday. We have a fine group of youth in our church. Expect this Sunday to be an exciting one.

While the Youth lead this service, I will be at South Side Christian Church in Omaha, Nebraska, a church where I held a pastorate prior to my retiring, taking part in their final service. It will be the closing service for this congregation. Several former pastors have been invited to return and share in this service.

This will be just a week-end trip. There is a lot of exciting things happening here in the life of our church. I do not want to miss it. I want to be a part of it. I trust you do too!

Blessings be with you all.

Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

PRAISE THE LORD! DID YOU KNOW? . . .

Bella Nicholson was selected as a member of the 5th-6th grade honor choir at Rex Elementary.

Jennifer Nicholson has been chosen to be a Technology Master Teacher for USD 259. She will keep the same job but will get to teach other teachers about technology.

Our family was so blessed when DeLicia had the chicken pox for two weeks. Three Christian families stepped forward and offered day care for her. Many thanks to two of them from our own family: Linda Bergeson and the Shetlers. Johnna Hall

Twenty-five people turned out Friday night at our youth-sponsored tail gate party. A good time was had by all. It was a wonderful start to an exciting night! The Colts were victorious! Yeah! Plan to join us at the next home game. We’ll make it worth your trip!

THANK YOU

Dear Church family,
We felt your loving arms around us during Butch’s recent surgery, through cards, phone calls, visits, and most importantly prayers. We feel very blessed to be a part of this congregation. Thanks to Milton, Dee, Merrill and Machaelle for making the waiting during surgery less tense. God bless you all, Butch and Janice Church

MEMORIAL COMMITTEE MEETING

NEW LOVE NEW MERCY

Margo Walker

This year’s giving program, New Love New Mercy, is based on the book of Lamentations, which tells us of great sorrow that is brought to God. God listens and responds with great compassion. These passages reveal God’s compassion for us. He’s always there, holding us up and helping us get through whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. God brings new love and new mercy into our lives.

Let us consider our gratitude for His compassion as we consider our generosity to support God’s work. Each family or individual is asked to prayerfully consider their financial giving during the next three weeks leading up to Consecration Sunday. Together we can support God’s purposes through our faithful giving.

Our annual Consecration Sunday and traditional Victory Dinner will be October 25th.

FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST

Thirteen men attended the Fellowship Breakfast on Saturday, October 3rd. Bruce Causey and his son, Max were special guests. The men enjoyed getting to know Bruce and his family as he gave a summation of his life experiences. All men are invited to join this group the 1st Saturday of the month for breakfast at 7:30 a.m.

YOUTH NEWS

Youth Sunday
Sunday October 18th is Youth Sunday. This is s special day of worship when the youth take on all the responsibilities of leading the worship hour. All of the youth who are involved in Sunday School, Kids For Christ, or the Wednesday Night Live programs will be participating in the service through music, video, and skit presentations. Plan to join us for this uplifting service filled with highlights from our youth and the youth programs.

Frontier City/Lock-in
We have a full day of fun and fellowship planned for this Saturday October 10th for the 12 youth who are headed to Frontier City in Oklahoma City. Those with a prepaid ticket need to meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. We will be returning home very LATE (or very early, depending on your perspective) after the park closes at 11 p.m. Those who intend to spend the night at the church should bring EVERYTHING they need for that night and for Sunday with them when they arrive at 9 a.m. If there are any questions please call Machaelle.

Tailgate Party
Come be a part of the FCC CCFC (First Christian Church Campus Colts Fan Club) Friday October 23rd. Once again our youth will be hosting the party. Look for our van stocked with lots of pre-game goodies and refreshments. Bring a lawn chair and a blanket and come spend the evening in fellowship with our youth cheering the Colts on to victory!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Back in 1993, Samaritan’s Purse collected the first shoe box gifts in North America for Operation Christmas Child. The idea of collecting thousands of gift-filled shoe boxes for young war survivors in Bosnia sounded daunting at the time, but also presented an exciting opportunity to share the Gospel. In that first year, 28, 000 boxes were collected. In 2008 nearly 8 million boxes were distributed to children in over 100 countries. Each box represents a precious child of God. Thanks to the hundreds of compassionate people who support this ministry, hurting children and their families all across the planet will hear the Good News and receive the gift of hope and salvation. You can be a part of this wonderful movement. Pick up your box and label today and get busy filling a box for a special child in need

If you would be able to provide a batch or two of cookies or other baked goods for our after worship fellowship time, please sign up on the sheet on the table in the entryway.

CHURCH GROWTH

Cookies for a Cause-October
Once again we are joining the Haysville Community Outreach and the other churches in Haysville to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for families in need. We know this may seem a little early to be asking for money for turkeys, but Thanksgiving is just around the corner. If you would like to donate by check, please make it out to Haysville Community Outreach and indicate that it’s for Thanksgiving turkeys. Thanks in advance for all the ways you support all of the causes.

Family Fun Night
This coming Saturday, October 10th is Family Fun Night. Bring soup, sandwiches or your favorite dish and enjoy an evening of good food and fellowship. If you have a favorite game, bring it too. Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m.
