NOTE FROM THE INTERIM
PASTOR
Psalm 118:24 is a verse we use quite
frequently when we begin our worship service on Sunday morning: “This is
the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” It
might be easier to recite this verse especially on a Sunday when we are
gathered in worship, when the sun is shining and we can enjoy the beauty
and grandeur of all outdoors.
We might find it difficult to recite this verse on Monday for
example, as we have left the leisure and excitement of the week-end, and
gone back to the formality and structure of jobs and schools. Then again,
on a cold dreary Sunday morning such as we had this past week, again it is
difficult for us to recite this verse. For us it does not seem like a
joyful day.
Monday is my favorite day of the week. It is a working day. There
are times I can look out the window of my office and see all kinds of
things going on. Monday is my day to reflect on yesterday and prepare for
the Sunday coming. I can “rejoice and be glad in it.”
This past Sunday might have been a cold miserable day, but there was
definitely something to “rejoice and be glad in it.” For those of you
who missed this day, for one, we had someone in worship that was in worship
for the first time in their life. For another, we had some people come back
to worship with us who visited with us on Bring A Friend Sunday. And
still there was someone who visited with us a couple of weeks ago, and
brought their spouse with them to worship. And still more, people were
sitting on the front row (known in some circles as the “amen” row).
Plus, we had 116 in worship, and there was no dinner following worship.
Sunday may have been a cold miserable day. Thank you Lord for
giving us even this cold miserable day! It was a day you made, and we
rejoiced and were glad for that day. Great things can happen even on days
like this. Now, maybe you know why I do not like to miss worship. You
never know who might be there. One thing for sure, God is there.
Blessings be with you all. Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

FROM THE E-MAIL FILE
Joe and I are moving again. Yes, again
and I hope this is the last time!!
Joe got a full time job in Klamath Falls (85 miles east). We use to
live in Klamath Falls 19 years ago so we know the town very well. I'll be
looking for a job when we are settled. I'll send the new address. We are
familiar with a couple of churches there so finding a church won't be hard.

NEW LOVE NEW MERCY
But this I call to mind, and therefore I
have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God’s mercies
never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your
faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I
will hope in God.’” Lamentations 3:21-24
My Granddaughter, DeAsia, age 3, had just been corrected for some
minor infraction. She scowled at me and said in her small petulant voice,
“Then you aren’t my friend!” I replied, “I’m not your friend,
I’m your Grandma.” Not to be outdone, she retorted, “Then you
aren’t my Ga’ma anymore!” I frowned, then smiled and sat down with
her and gently explained that I will always be her Grandma, no matter what.
God gave her to me as a Granddaughter and nothing can ever take that away.
She started to cry and blubbered,” I’m sorry Ga’ma.”
God’s word in Lamentations reminds us of His everlasting
relationship with us, promising us His faithfulness in the relationship,
whether or not we are being faithful on our side. He accepts our
regretfulness, or our “laments”, with loving kindness and gentle
mercies. And His mercies are new and fresh every morning. How sweet is
that?
Our church’s Consecration Sunday will be October 25th. Our
church’s budget for 2010 will be defined by the pledges made at that
time. Please prayerfully consider this aspect of your side of the
relationship with God.
Will you be at church and the Victory Dinner on October 25th? If
you haven’t already, please let us know. Call the office at 524-5884.
Thank you. Johnna Hall, Stewardship Chair

CHURCH GROWTH
Cookie for a Cause
This October, Haysville Community Outreach and the churches in the
community work together to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for families in
need. Following worship when we enjoy our cookies and lemonade, Church
Growth is asking you to help buy turkeys for the Thanksgiving dinners. If
you are writing a check, please make it out to Haysville Community
Outreach. If you would like to donate canned items, there is a basket at
the back of the sanctuary for them. Thank you in advance for your generous
donations. All the donations this month will go to this cause.
Kansas Christian Home
On Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. we are going to work on items to
give to Kansas Christian Home in Newton for their annual bazaar. We will
be putting together jars of layered cookie mixes, bath salts and cups with
packaged drinks. This should take a couple of hours. It’s so much fun
working together for such a good cause. Everyone is welcome to join us.
Anyone who has craft items they would be willing to donate the bazaar,
please let us know by calling the church office at 524-5884 or Lenora Heath
at 524-4053. Someone will be taking all the items to Newton the following
week. We will be traveling to Newton to visit the bazaar on Friday morning
November 6th. Everyone is welcome to go. Let Peggy or Lenora know so we
will know how many cars to take.
