Haysville FCC Newsletter November 4, 2008
FROM THE PASTOR

God does such good work—and much of it has to do with beauty. Such beauty in so many of the trees around us! They are individual—similar, yet different. And the sunsets and the Flint Hills grass and the geese flying over head . . . is there no end to God’s creative work? The answer to that question is NO! We can see it and be a part of it every day of our life.

Some of God’s greatest creative work is in the development of relationships between human beings—family and friends. Loving relationships have a beauty unlike any other. This kind of beauty involves more than appearance. It does not change with the seasons. It does not depend on circumstances. It is the kind of beauty that God has demonstrated for us; a beauty that is based on love. It is a beauty that requires our willful participation. It is the kind of beauty that characterizes the church as we walk by the light that God provides for our journey.

Enjoy the beauty.

George

CHURCH GROWTH

Cookies for a Cause

November’s Cookies for a Cause is Christmas gifts for the residents of Kansas Christian Home. KCH includes on its campus a 92 bed licensed skilled nursing facility certified by Medicare and Medicaid. The needs of the elderly vary from skilled nursing and geriatric rehabilitation to semi-independence. Each level and program of care is developed to help the elderly, regardless of the length of stay, attain physical function, social and emotional health and spiritual growth.

It would be wonderful if we could collect a lot of items for them for Christmas. You have been given a list of suggested gifts in the bulletin and there are more lists on the table in the entry. Thanks for thinking of the residents of KCH

Family Fun Night
This coming Saturday the 8TH will be Family Fun Night. Bring soup, sandwiches or your favorite dish to share with others. Following dinner we play board games, cards or dominos. If the children don’t care to join us for games, they may watch a DVD. Join us at 6:00 p.m. for a fun evening of good food and fellowship.

Thanksgiving Dinner
Sunday the 23rd will be our annual Thanksgiving dinner here at the church. Put the date on your calendar. There will be more information next week.

NO BIBLE SUNDAY

This Sunday we will have as special guests Ed & Melissa Swanson, Wycliffe Bible Translator missionaries, with at least two of their four children.
During the Sunday School hour, their son Paul and Melissa will present information about the Jungle Jump Off (JJO) program to the Middle and High School classes.

Also during the Sunday School hour, the adult Sunday School classes and anyone else who wants to join are invited to the sanctuary for a presentation of the Swansons’ work in the mission field.

Our worship time will follow a little different schedule than usual. The name of the overall program is NO Bible Sunday. The program has been conducted in churches around the world. Church leaders, who are only too aware of the decrease in Bible use over recent years, have reacted positively. “No Bible Sunday presents a significant challenge to spoiled Christians in the West who treat Bibles as expensive ornaments," states David McMillan of Windsor Baptist Church, Belfast. (From the Wycliffe NO Bible Sunday website)
Be sure to come Sunday to see what this is all about. A freewill offering will be received. Johnna Hall

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes are due November 23.

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped and delivered across the globe.

People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ. (Copied-Smaritan’s Purse webpage)

Luis Mendez, pastor of Fairview Christian Church, was a guest of First Christian Church men at their Saturday morning breakfast. He shared with them about their COAT DRIVE for the homeless and less fortunate. If you have good used winter coats to donate, bring them to the church and the men will take them to Fairview Christian. Fairview Christian Church also has a clothes closet for good used clothes which is an on-going project. However, the men are only collecting coats at this time. With winter coming, good warm winter coats of all sizes would be appreciated.
