NOTE FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR

Thanksgiving is almost upon us. This Sunday we will gather after worship for our church’s annual Thanksgiving dinner. We will also be receiving our Thanksgiving Offering which supports the many Disciples Colleges and Seminaries.

I have memories of many Thanksgiving celebrations. Some of them have been with my family and others where I have been serving the church in places where family was not close by. One of those times I celebrated Thanksgiving with my daughter and about 20 members of the military and their families in Germany. It was a special time as two weeks later she was off to the Persian Gulf War. The other was with my other daughter and my oldest granddaughter. I was helping my daughter move from Kansas to my home in Montana. Some dear friends of mine in South Dakota invited us to spend the night with them. It was Thanksgiving night when we arrived. Here are three very tired people coming into their home after they had celebrated Thanksgiving with their family. I heard the words, “We have been waiting for you.” Faster than a speeding bullet, the table was reset for us, complete with the fine china, and a delightful seven course Thanksgiving meal was set before us.

I plan to spend Thanksgiving with my daughter and her husband in Leavenworth. They have invited me as we have an old family tradition that goes back to my children’s childhood. Dad cooks the turkey and makes the dressing. For some reason this has always been special for my family.

Thanksgiving is a great time for family gatherings. We have much to be thankful for. I give thanks for my family and especially this congregation and church which has brought us together for ministry this past year.

Thanks be to God! Blessings be with you all.

Milton Bryarly, Interim Pastor

THANKSGIVING DINNER

This coming Sunday, November 22 will be our annual Thanksgiving dinner. This meal is for the whole church, guests and extra family members. We always have lots of food. Please plan to stay and enjoy good food and fellowship. It will be a wonderful day of giving thanks to God for all the many blessings He showers upon us each and every day. The turkeys are in the freezer or refrigerator. See Lenora about picking them up. Thanks to all the people who are bringing a dish for dinner.

POINSETTIA PROJECT

As we celebrate Advent, we adorn our sanctuary with symbols of the season, one of these being the poinsettia. You will be able to participate in the Poinsettia Project by making a contribution for the poinsettias which may be designated “in memory of,” “in honor of”, or appreciation of,” someone special. A list of these special people will be printed in the worship bulletin. The poinsettias may be taken after the close of the Christmas Eve service on December 24, 2009.

FROM THE E-MAIL FILE

Greetings from the Northwest (AKA Bear Country) Yes! We have bears! And pigs, horses, goats, sheep and Rhode Island Red hens. Joe's job is going well. He has less than 55 days left on his probation period. I am still searching for work. I had an interview today, but they had their person already picked before I arrived for the interview. Please pray that I find work soon. We honestly can't make it on Joe's salary alone.
Snow will be coming soon. The bears have come down for one more food hunt...as long as it's not me or my dogs!!

Hello to everyone at FCC. We miss you very much.

Our new address is PO Box 7708, Klamath Falls, OR 97602. Phone is 541-884-1862. That's a hint, write us, please!!

Also, I need to get word to Aaron and April Devan. A young man I was writing to who was stationed with Aaron in Afghanistan can't be found. His name is Timothy Tendall. Any help locating him would be appreciated.

That's all for now! Take care and God Bless. Bev and Joe McCormick

HANGING OF THE GREENS

You are invited to help decorate the church for the Christmas Season on Saturday, November 28 at 9:00 a.m. until the decorating is complete. Bring snacks to share.

YOUTH NEWS

This Friday several of our youth will be heading off for Manhattan Kansas where they will attend the weekend OASIS youth conference. Pray for safe travel to and from the conference and that God will meet each of them where they are and transform their lives in some way. Those attending OASIS are: Alex Marsh, Andrew Marsh, Adrianna Vargas, Alex Vargas, Morgan Shetler, Allison Jerome, Betsy Burke, Stefanie Jimenez, Jesse Shetler, Angie Chadd and Machaelle Shetler.

There will be NO WNL activities during the week of Thanksgiving (November 25)! We will meet again on December 2. Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble until you wobble!

The youth Christmas program is scheduled for Sunday, December 20th during the worship hour. This year’s program is called, “In the Eye of the Beholder.” Parents . . . if you wish for your child to be a part of this special service, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that your child attend Sunday School during the month of December. Each of the Sunday School classes will be working individually on their piece of the program during this time. If you have any questions, please contact Machaelle.

ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH WILL MEET ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS FROM 6:30-8 P.M.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Please bring your filled shoeboxes with you to church this Sunday. There will be a special dedication/blessing during the worship hour. Don’t forget to include $7 for shipping and handling. If you choose the EZ on-line payment option, be sure to print off as many labels as there are boxes.

HAYSVILLE COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we approach the holiday season we are once again looking for volunteers to help with the Christmas project.

Before Christmas, volunteers are needed from our church to help with these activities at West Haysville Baptist Church,
141 Lamar, on the following dates:
6:30 p.m. Monday December 7: Sorting gifts into age groups
5:30 p.m. Tuesday December 8: Sorting gifts into family groups
5:30 p.m. Wednesday December 9: Assemble Christmas food boxes
6:30 p.m. Thursday December 10: Wrap Christmas gifts
9-11 a.m. Saturday December 12: Distribute Christmas food boxes and gifts

Many volunteers will be needed to assure the success of the 2009 holiday season. HCO would like to truly represent the people of this community by involving everyone in these worthwhile community projects.

ANGEL TREE

Every year at Christmas time, First Christian Church joins other churches in the community in purchasing gifts for children in the Haysville community whose families won’t be able to give their children any gifts this Christmas.

Please pick a card or two from the Angel Tree in the entryway. The card lists the age and gender of a child. Return the gift unwrapped in a bag, with this card attached, to the church by December 6. We will be taking the gifts to the West Haysville Baptist Church (Haysville Community Outreach) on that Sunday, right after church service.
